This river starts at 1500 metres altitude in the mountain ranges of Serra de Tromba, in Chapada Diamantina, winding its way down 620 kilometres to finally reach Itacaré. The main reason for travelling up the river is to find the hidden waterfall... but the canoe trip itself is just as stunning as what you'll find at the other end. It's completely up to you if you want to row yourself or leave it to your guide to do all the hard work! Or you can just row for some of the time.
Upon arriving to the waterfall of Cleando (20 meters high and three levels of cascades), you'll discover that its’ cascades form natural swimming pools with crystal clear water, perfect for taking a refreshing dip on a hot, humid day. And surrounded by lush, Atlantic rainforest.
This is a very flexible excursion. You can make it what you want. It can be done as a half day or a full day excursion and you can choose to have lunch or drinks at various different points along the way (at the waterfall, on the banks of the river or at the beach of Pontal). We recommend that you try to return to Itacaré at sunset time. Sunset on the Rio das Contas is an experience not to be missed!
Transport: Walking and Dug-out Canoe for 5 people each canoe + Guide/Rower.
Pick-up/Return: 9hs/14hrs or 13hrs / 18hrs (Half-day) or 9hrs / 17hrs (Full-day).
